LES Backup Storage?

Hey,

Would someone be interested in some Backup Storage for LES boxes?
Lets say for example like 20-40GB per User, accessible only over LES boxes?
I have some free storage on my dedi's arround 1.8TB, splitted on 3 boxes.

Anyone interested?

Neoon

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Hmm, depends on the details and cost.  Note that David (Deepnet) is offering some storage LES, and Ryan (Nanovz) used to have some as well (Megastor) though they have been out of stock for a while.

I think it's rather hard to be price-competive with this kind of product, compared to standard vps (e.g. from Ramnode) that oversell disk space heavily because people usually don't use their allocation.  I have a couple of Ramnode 128MB vps's with of 80GB RAID storage for 15 USD/year each, which is hard to beat.

For a backup-only product maybe it's ok to not have RAID (since the primary copy of the data is supposed to be on the user's machine).  That can lower costs some.

I'd say it starts getting interesting if it's RAID and it's at or under .01/gb/month give or take a little, and it's available in fairly large chunks, like 200+ GB.

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Ups, i didn't mention the word "free". I thought about a Package with 35GB (no Raid) and 20GB on 2 different locations.

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Oh neat!  Sure, I'm always up for anything free.  But I'm somewhat in the market for a much larger amount of space.

Depending on the resources needed, I may be able to provide a bit of storage too.

Contact me via http://krkn.pw/contact, and ask to route the ticket to me (David)

Re: LES Backup Storage?

I would add new locations later, in some days, however I droped you a ticket.

Everything is running now, LES boxes from Inception/EvoBurst are whitelisted. For the other Locations, i need to get the IP's first.
But if you like to try it, some Tokens here:

bAXki7y6vT
PvzTO0vlLm
HJ0wj1pTcb
K0640u2Y52
j0SFfGhQ5u
Yb6Qz6wJC5
WQX0v9h3bp

Plenty stock is available about 40 Packages, if all Tokens are gone drop me a PN and i will give you one.
Example for a FTP Script, is available at Howto for Debian/Ubuntu.

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Hi!

Thanks, just made an account, worked fine! Bit scary that I couldn't see my account details anywhere after I submitted my request, but luckily I remembered them smile

2 tiny pieces of other feedback:
- Small typo on the page: 'This Project/Site is not assosiated with Lowendspirit.'
- I assume adding rsync to the list of supported protocols is out of the question? Would be helpful! smile

Nevertheless, thanks for providing this service for free!!

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Hey,

The Page should now display your Password/Username again after account creation, fixed also the spelling mistake, Thanks.
I actually wanted only to offer rsync, but that requires a local user account, instead of atm a mysql databse as backend which holds the user accounts.
But let me see if i find a solution for that.

Re: LES Backup Storage?

There's http://serverfault.com/questions/608445 … ql-backend, but that might be more trouble than it's worth. Or: a nice little project for the weekend smile

Re: LES Backup Storage?

Seems like no one uses it, so i come to a decision, do shut it down.

If you like to do something to contribute for LES, i can give you the Dedi.
Still paid and stuff.

Re: LES Backup Storage?

I just remembered your service, and thought I would be able to use it for some quick file transfers.

Sad to see it go. I tried to login, and the ftp service still seems to work (maybe not your server anymore?)

Hopefully someone will come again with a similar idea smile
