Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

I don't often cross post offers (I have no objection too it either for anyone else for the record)  but this one seemed pretty damn good and its NAT so I decided to give it a poke here.

copy paste from LET:

Hello guys!

Let me introduce the new 1TB NAT KVM plan. The full specs are below:

KVM NAT Storage

1 vCPU core i7-3770
Unlimited CPU core 3.7GHz Turbo
1GB RAM
1TB HDD RAID-5
Linux/Windows OS
Bandwidth 250Mbps
Traffic 2TB/mo
1 IPv4 NAT
DDoS protection
Location - Germany (Hetzner)
Price - $6.99/mo

Link - https://www.wishosting.com/order/config … cing_id=42

The package has 20 assigned ports (1 for SSH, 1 for RDP and 18 custom ports). You can order a dedicated proxy IP address for incoming connections for $1/mo (limited to 100Mbps).

The payment gateway is Bitpay (Bitcoin) or 2Checkout (PayPal), it is also possible to pay via Skrill manually, just open a ticket.

https://www.wishosting.com

---------

I asked about splitting the 1TB up a bit as that would make things like freenas possible.

Great thing actually and wishosting is good in terms of package and specs.

I noticed after posting this they dont provide IPv6 though.. not sure why as they use hetzner, little bit odd.

Looks like that disk is sold more than twice.
No way that price cover the cost of the server.

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Well he said it was an SX61 which is 4 x 6TB, so with no raid that gives 24TB lets say 23TB that can be sold.

23 * $6.99 = $160.77

After licensing and fee's its possible to make a profit, I assume it is thin provisioned anyway , not a bad thing really, that probably eeks out another $30 - $50 of profit over time, this is assuming it was not got cheaper from an auction, not my idea of a business model but who knows, I have given up questioning these things now, they rarely make sense, give it 18 months and see if it still exists.

Makes much more sense with the SX291 as that gives 83x1TB volumes using Raid 5 to sell, 83 * 6.99 = $580.17 that is how I would do it.

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Offer states Raid5 so it's more likely the SX291.

Not used to a low end provider that is willing to provide cheap services and sign up for a server like that.

"That cheap". :'D
And I am bitching around as soon as a monthly rate gets a two-digit number.

/EDIT/

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

SX61 and Raid5 gives 18TB.

18*$6,99 = $125,82 / month.
Paypal fees? Or only bitcoin.....

€82,11 / month in costs for the server.
Given todays conversion rate it's not much profit on a full server.

Only way to make it is thin provisioning and oversell. Guessing somewhere around 30 accounts??

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Yeah but you need some space for the OS and ISO's OS images etc so its actually 17 * $6.99 = $118.83

A $6.99 transaction on PayPal is going to be around $6.44 so that is $109.48

So that's about $22.50 profit for a whole node and that does not include WHMCS costs as that is an ever reducing factor on scale.

So erm, I hope for his sake he is thin provisioning, or he is just building interest in the product on a self fulfilling basis to justify the jump to the SX291 + Migration, sensible way to start slowly.

Anyway.... brb just off to buy an SX291 and route some IP's to remove NAT restrictions for iSCSI FreeNAS etc smile

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Hi guys, just to answer some of your questions here.

The node uses thin-provisioned volumes indeed. I did not choose SX131 or SX291 because I am not a fan of putting many VMs onto one physical node (more CPU and Network resources per VM this way). Also if one node goes down, only a few customers are affected.

There is no WHMCS cost, I am using Blesta Owned License. Also the control panel is OpenNebula so there is no SolusVM fees either.

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Hi,

Thanks for joining, for a backup based server with storage as the primary USP the threads on a 131 and for sure on a 291 would have absolutely no trouble coping.

Just a bit of inside baseball anyway, it was not supposed to turn in to a 'how is he doing it thread' in any negative way, its just always a point of interest smile, if I was doing storage VM's I would thin provision too, if for no other reason than the ability to move data around requires significantly less overhead and that situation is unavoidable over time, I have been through it so many times, needing to move 12TB+ volumes around in smaller 100+ GB chunks when I know I am actually just moving about 10TB of 0's for no good reason.

I would have bought one or two myself but as they are NAT with no IPv6 its a bit restrictive to use as actual storage servers due to hard coded ports etc (my use case only).

Thank you for the clarification!

I have more then once been close to start up a VPS line and my interest of how other calculates their profits are genuine....
i wish you good luck and i hope you make enough money to keep it running for a long time.

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

@exception0x876 is a good guy and really nice to work with. I have a net with him for over a year now and just reupped it. Have had no problems at all and his ticket etiquette is very cordial. He even went out of his way to help me even though the vps was free, which says a lot to me anyways. I would recommend him if you need something along his line of services anytime.

Re: Wishosting 1TB NAT KVM offer

Very nice offer.  Advantage of the SX131/291 is you can do raid-6 without the spare volumes using up too big a fraction of the drive space.  For what it's worth, the older SX60 (i7-2600, 16gb, 4x 4TB drives) has made its way into the Hetzner auction at around 50euro ex-vat.  At raid-5 that comes to US$ 4.89/TiB/mo instead of $4.50/TiB/mo, but the monthly price is lower and there's no setup fee.  OTOH the drives are likely to be older and maybe less reliable.

Interesting, I wonder just how long you would last if you did run the cpu at 100% 24x7 while running 250mbit 24x7 as well smile
