Re: Phoenix (used to be Dallas) issues [RESOLVED]

I reinstalled OS, waited 20 minutes and tried to boot. Nothing. Waited another 20 minutes (in case the re-install was slow), still nothing.

EDIT: 99% sure it has to do with the lack of swap

Re: Phoenix (used to be Dallas) issues [RESOLVED]

You never had swap before this incident, I think it is more likely just a lack of ram full stop, it might be worth reinstalling again, something might have been broken due to the config files having ridiculous ram settings during the initial install.

Re: Phoenix (used to be Dallas) issues [RESOLVED]

PLEASE READ

Do NOT just click boot or reboot, you need to click reinstall and install an OS, if at that point you still get nothing please post here stating your local IP address stating you have done a reinstall and the VPS is not online also state which OS you attempted to install.

I have just checked the log, you absolutely did not reinstall, you rebooted.

Log
Date    Action    Request IP Address    Status
18/05/2017 01:16 PM    Reboot    your IP    Complete

I have double checked this against the server logs too, why would you choose to waste my time like that?

I just logged in as you, reinstalled, and it works fine.

When I say click reinstall, you actually need to complete the install by selecting an OS and submitting it.

I did reboot at first, but I also did reinstall afterwards, and the system told me to wait for a while or something like that. I can't think of any reason to lie and to waste everybody's time.
Anyway, thanks for the kind help.

Re: Phoenix (used to be Dallas) issues [RESOLVED]

IP: 192.168.101.23
Reinstalled Debian 7.5 32 bit Minimal (tried installing 8.0 64 bit at first, then reinstalled to 7.5 to verify that the install went through).

The server says Online, but I can't connect to it using either the external IP which worked prior to the downtime or a serial console session. Also, I'm getting 128MB on the memory instead of the listed 256MB.

Works absolutely fine from here, you are using port 2321 and external IP ending in .55 correct?

You plan to ban IRC on all LES?

2321 works. I was using 2301 and it was fine up to Tuesday when it went down. I recall when I signed up for the service all the ports defaulted to xx01 for :22 forward. When did this change?

Re: Phoenix (used to be Dallas) issues [RESOLVED]

Reinstalled and VPS is online, but getting some screwy memory issues.

[[email protected] ~]# free -m
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:           128         41         86          2          0         16
-/+ buffers/cache:         24        103
Swap:            0          0          0
[[email protected] ~]# mailq
mailq: error while loading shared libraries: libnspr4.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory

Lots of "fork error", "Failed to allocate memory in gm_malloc", etc.

I had 128MB before, so no change in amount of memory.  I've also got a 64MB LES VPS (different location) which is configured the same and has no such issues.

Starting mysqld:                                           [  OK  ]

Seems to be an issue being pulled from the debian repos atm, I rules out ram by giving you 1GB, reinstalled, reinstalled direct to 8, used the same template on another server, used a different template on a different server, all fresh debian installs seem to have the same issue, installed el6, it works fine.

I don't think this has anything to do with this threads specific issues so I would ask you to open a new one for this specifically if you can't live with centos right now or try ubuntu instead.

Inception Hosting has never ever redirected xx01, it has always been xx21, you may well have setup your own redirection viaxx01 in the past and forgot and assumed it was standard.

Other hosts use 01 though, maybe that is why.
