NANO64 - yum update fails on CentOS 7

Hi,
I have some NANO64s which I've reinstalled recently with CentOS 7 x64 minimal.

When I run yum update it looks like this:

 ...
tzdata noarch 2015g-1.el7 updates 431 k
 util-linux x86_64 2.23.2-22.el7_1.1 updates 1.9 M

Exiting on user cancel

I don't know whether the process is running out of memory (the VPS only has 64MB RAM) or there's something on the host system killing processes which consume too much resources.

I found a workaround using 'bash -c yum update' instead of running yum directly, but this results in the systemd postinstall script being killed which results a messed up system.

Did anyone encounter the same problem and maybe find a solution?

Run yum with all plugins disabled, then it should be OK.

Hi SonicMaximum,
tried that by setting plugins=0 in /etc/yum.conf. Didn't help: "Exiting on user cancel" sad

Enable that line back, and instead use something like 'yum --disableplugin=fastestmirror update' or something like that.

How is this different to the method I've chosen?

Because the method you use is the nuclear option.

Re: NANO64 - yum update fails on CentOS 7

For Nano64 VPS, you should only use Debian 7 and below.

CentOS is using too much ram and causing yum to crash.

With 64MB ram, only apt is running well without any crashes.

yeah while you 'can' run CENT6/7 on 64mb its really not for anyone that is not pretty advanced, you can however swap yum for apt which really helps, you need to really strip your OS first.
