[SOLVED] Need help with ZNC and OpenVPN

Hello,

Please ignore my lack of knowledge, but this is my first time with LES. I just wanted to set up the server for using a ZNC bouncer and OpenVPN. I followed the tutorial here (I did not enable SSL). The ZNC setup went just fine and the ZNC is up and running, because I did a /whois and I could find the ZNC bouncer on the server.

Now, I'm not sure how to connect to the bouncer. The ZNC setup at the end said;

[ ** ] /server <znc_server_ip> 1111 user:<pass>
[ ** ] And this in your browser...
[ ** ] http://<znc_server_ip>:1111/

I wasn't sure what the <znc_server_ip> was, so I followed both the tutorials (#1 - #2) to find the IPv4 address and I got two different addresses.

However, I've tried to connect to both the IP addresses but I get an error..

Could anyone help please? Also, how should I go about with OpenVPN?

Thank you, and apologies for my stupidity.

Edit: I forgot to add, my server's in France and with VirtWire, if that's of any help. Thanks smile

Re: [SOLVED] Need help with ZNC and OpenVPN

I'm using ZNC on my VPS as well, and the <znc_server_ip> is actually just your internal IPv4 address (if you have IPv4+IPv6 setting on, it will bind to both), meaning you log in to your ZNC webpanel by typing in your browser: https://<your_external_ip>:1111 if the port 1111 is in your NAT port range of course. Or if you have a domain name pointing to your sever, you can use it as well

And be sure to connect using HTTPS, as ZNC will refuse the connection to the webpanel otherwise.
And you can check your external IP by accessing this website from your VPS (using curl or wget, for instance)

Re: [SOLVED] Need help with ZNC and OpenVPN

Hi Toldierone, thanks for your response. I tried to curl that website and I got this.

[email protected]:~# curl getipaddr.net
176.31.x.x
If you want more information, go to http://getipaddr.net/more/

I try to connect in HexChat using the command

/server 176.31.x.x 1111

But I get connection refused sad

Oh, so that is what I need to keep in mind. 1111 wasn't, and I just used it for "testing" how to connect to it. I just tried a port that IS in my NAT range and it works. Thanks a lot Todlierone! big_smile
