Openvpn issue in SG location by MrVM

Hello Friends,

I tried to install openvpn on the SG NAT VPS that I purchased from MrVM. The script runs fine, but the openvpn server gets killed and here is a log for the syslog. Any insights on this.

PS: I am running the debian-8.0-x86_64, enabled the tun / tap from the client area. Any help in this regards is much appreciated.

Have you made sure that the correct port is been used by openvpn?
Edit: Did you reboot after enabling Tun/Tap. Just try that sometimes it works.

Yes tried, restarting & shut down and power up but nothing seems to work.

Re: Openvpn issue in SG location by MrVM

I think I have a very different issue... if I run modprobe tun I get the below error, looks like for some reason the tun module is not loaded / accessible..

[email protected]:~# modprobe tun
modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:514 lookup_builtin_file() could not open builtin file '/lib/modules/3.10.0-862.11.6.vz7.64.7/modules.builtin.bin'
modprobe: FATAL: Module tun not found in directory /lib/modules/3.10.0-862.11.6.vz7.64.7

Re: Openvpn issue in SG location by MrVM

Seems like it resolved on its own, I have to create the tun device manually despite enabling it in the control panel. All good now. Thanks @MM552

Re: Openvpn issue in SG location by MrVM

Modprobe can’t be run in an OpenVZ container as it shares the kernel with the node.

I will pop a ticket to Virtualizor as I consider that a bug that should be fixed.

Re: Openvpn issue in SG location by MrVM

Hypervisor needs to have tap/tun loaded, added to /etc/modules{.d/openvz.conf}.

It is loaded on the node itself, somehow the directory in the container is not created. If created manually, after enabling it in the controlmpnel it works.

This is pretty common.  When SolusVM decides to stop working, I just use vzctl.
